LESSON TEXT

I. Without Love, a Believer Is Nothing (I Corinthians 13:1-2)

II. Without Love, a Believer Gains Nothing (( I Corinthians 13:3-13)

THE MAIN THOUGHT

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. Corinthians 13:13, KJV

UNIFYING PRINCIPLE

Special gifts such as knowledge and wisdom easily can make us lose sight of our oblogations to others. How can we avoid being pleased with ourselves? Paul suggested that love is the best way to relate to others and forget one's own status.

LESSON AIM

To learn what love is and what it does, not how it feels.

 Life AIM

To love in ways that square with God's definition of love.

God's Word in Life

A recently graudated African-American male was commissioned as a second lieutenant and arrived ready for his first tour of duty. He was placed in a unit of 250 soldiers under the command of one captain. The lieutenant was called into the captain's office to receive his work assignments. He was given thirty-five soldiers to lead and a variety of assignments designed to help the unit succeed. Seeing that the young lieutenant fresh out of college was overwhelmed, the captain gave him some helpful advice. "I know you have a lot to deal with. but treat each work area like a ball that must be juggled. All except one of the balls are rubber and if dropped will bounce back with hard work. But one ball is glass and if dropped will break. That will cost you your job and careerr as an officer." The captain wanted the lieutenant to know one of his duties was so important and essential to everything they do that it could not go undone. Likewise, the scope and mission of the Church is vast and multilayered. But the central trait woven throughout the Church is love. The Church can go without many things, but not love. It is the glass ball.

Okay so before we get into the Scriptures let me talk on the lesson topic: "THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY" He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Special gifts such as knowledge and wisdom easily can make us lose sight of our oblogations to others. How can we avoid being pleased with ourselves? Paul suggested that love is the best way to relate to others and forget one's own status. Love is what it does, not how it feels. A more excellent way; God is Excellent in all of His ways and we should model ourselves after Him.

I. Without Love, a Believer Is Nothing (I Corinthians 13:1-2)

13 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

II. Without Love, a Believer Gains Nothing (( I Corinthians 13:3-13)

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought [5] as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; [6] but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

In conclusion:

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

The central aim of the this lesson is the highlight of this teaching and draws a great conclusion for us to learn what love is and what it does, not how it feels. It's not always good to know how something feel; it could be deadly, devastating, or even mental. We need to love in ways that square with God's definition of love, love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and love your neighbor as youself.

QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION:

How can we become better neighbors to one another? Is the Kingdom of God divided and separated by ethnic groups? Does God value all peoples?

CLOSING PRAYER...Lord thank you for giving us the word......so many people don't get the meaning of love your neighbor and bless them as you would do youself teach us that that is your greatest command and to abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity is your command. In Jesus Name Am
